Wild meat – tissue hypergranulation

30.05.2024

What is tissue hypergranulation?

Tissue hypergranulation, or ‘wild meat,’ occurs when there is an excessive formation of new tissue in a wound. Typically, this new tissue helps in the healing process, but sometimes there is an overgrowth, which can interfere with proper healing.

Recovery period

It’s important to follow your doctor’s recommendations. This period involves medication therapy and special procedures to support optimal wound healing. It’s also necessary to properly care for the wound, regularly change dressings, and ensure that the wound remains clean and dry. This will help prevent the recurrence of hypergranulation tissue and ensure successful healing.

Physical therapy

Physical therapists play a crucial role in recovery and prevention of tissue hypergranulation. At PhysioSpace, we apply an individualized approach to each client, ensuring the most effective rehabilitation.

  • Physical therapists assess the functional status and the impact of the wound on the ability to move actively, which will help in choosing an appropriate recovery plan.
  • They develop an individual recovery plan that includes:⁃ therapeutic exercises;
    ⁃ gentle manual techniques for working with joints;
    ⁃ fascial techniques for working with muscles;
    ⁃ targeted physical exercises that help improve blood circulation and speed up wound healing.
  • Regular visits to the therapist will help monitor the healing process and make timely adjustments to the recovery plan.

Psychological Support

The rehabilitation of hypergranulation tissue can cause stress and anxiety. Psychological support helps the client overcome emotional difficulties and maintain a positive outlook on the recovery process.

Hypergranulation tissue, or “proud flesh,” is a common issue that can complicate wound healing. It is important to recognize this problem in a timely manner and apply appropriate treatment methods to ensure optimal healing. Physical therapists play a crucial role in this process, helping patients accelerate the healing process.

If you have any questions about the recovery process, you can contact the specialists at our center for a consultation.
